This is a major step forward in our efforts to stop the overuse of antibiotics. Sign our letter thanking KFC for doing the right thing for public health and protecting our life-saving medicines.
Under current law, while corporations cannot deduct public fines and penalties from their taxes, they are able to do so with payments for settlements not paid directly to the government for their wrong-doing. This means that some corporations can lower their tax bill by claiming lawsuit settlements to non-federal entities as deductibles. Earlier this week, Senator Reed (D-RI) and Senator Grassley (R-IA) introduced a piece of bipartisan legislation which would bar corporations from getting tax write-offs from punitive settlements. This settlement loophole costs taxpayers billions each year. Join us in contacting our Senators and encouraging them to support this legislation holding corporations accountable for their misdeeds!
